The Day We Ate Too Much

Petit Henri is fabulous, however being two fit, strong Aussie chicks we like to walk whenever possible. Generally there's a food incentive involved and we've been known to walk 3 villages in search of lunch.  This happened in Normandy on our last trip & was quite an achievement as we traipsed along the quiet country roads, our brollies keeping the rain at bay, with the sound of gunshots in the distance.  Yep gunshots. We'd been warned of the hunters & told there was nothing to worry about as they hunted in a cordoned off area...cordoned off by tape (fabulous).  Our advice was to just make a noise & be heard so we soldiered on singing the song our French tutor, Isabel, had taught us.  We couldn't remember all the words (this would come as no shock to Isabel) but we belted it out anyway.  To be honest I wouldn't have held it against the hunters if they'd fired a few pot shots in our direction to shut us up.

Today's outing was to the village of Le Barroux 3.5kms away.  Not far at all, but when you take into account the steep hills we were relieved to be walking & not on bikes (suckers).

We had a wander around this gorgeous little village to sus out our lunchtime options.  I like to think of us as professional eaters & we take our craft very seriously weighing up all our options before making a final decision.  We were excited.

Nothing was open.  With our bottom lips dragging on the cobblestones we reluctantly went into the Epi-cafe & grabbed a baguette & some Camembert...phew we wouldn't starve, but not exactly the meal we had in mind.

With baguette in hand off we set to find a picturesque little field where we could get our picnic on.  However on the way we stumbled upon Gajulea Restaurant & the very talented chef David Santiago.  Oh my what a find.

Our picnic I'm sure would have been wonderful, but this lentil salad followed by a baked gnocchi dish was to die for.  We couldn't even fit in dessert, which is unheard of for us, & could barely get ourselves out of our chairs for the walk home.
